Eating healthy, being more active, and limiting the time you watch TV or play video games are great ways to start the New Year with a positive attitude. Take a step further this year and give back to the global community by helping students in Kenya and Tanzania receive a quality education.
Recently, students at the International School of Monaco connected with Tloma Primary School, one of the schools we partner with in Tanzania, on a project dedicated to giving back. Like many rural schools Africa, electricity is not available to students at home or at school. Having a reliable light source helps students achieve their full potential especially when trying to finish their homework at night.
The International School of Monaco challenged their students to do extra work at home with chore charts to raise funds to buy solar powered lamps for Tloma Primary School. When the students completed their chores at the end of the week, their parents paid for their finished chores.
Both schools learned a lot from this project and so can you. Make 2014 the year you give back. Try volunteering or organizing a fundraiser to help buy uniforms, desks, textbooks, and scholarships for students in Kenya and Tanzania.
Make your New Year’s resolution early this year by asking your friends and family to donate a gift to Asante Africa Foundation in your honor. Visit our Alternative Gifts page here.
